The Office of Inspector General (OIG) works to ensure honesty, integrity, and accountability in the City of Detroit government. Our mission is to be one of the most proficient and vigilant Inspector General offices in the country by safeguarding taxpayer dollars and protecting the public’s trust.
The OIG investigates allegations of fraud, abuse, waste, and corruption involving:
City employees and officials
City agencies and programs
Contractors, subcontractors, and vendors
Individuals and businesses seeking to do business with the City
Our office has the authority to:
Issue subpoenas and demand testimony from City employees
Review contracts, financial records, and other city documents
Conduct investigations and forensic audits
Recommend disciplinary, policy, or contract actions
Refer cases to law enforcement when criminal activity is suspected
Those who report wrongdoing are protected from retaliation under the Detroit City Charter.
